Because Basketball is great for health and fitness, and well rounded development,
Jackie is especially keen to support the youngsters coming into the sport and
is inspired by the way that basketball and the West Wales clubs in particular
are so friendly and supportive to all involved.
Jackie set up the Preseli storm basketball club with husband Lindsay, eldest
son Louis, and Ian Bell, in 1999. The local kids wanted to play, but they needed
some supervision, and so Jackie became a coach.
Now the whole family plays basketball; Maelien, her youngest is already 10” taller
than Jackie, and he plays at U16, U18 and senior level – her grandson Leo got
his first basketball when he was 3 months old. She says: “It is wonderful
to watch the kids grow and develop with the sport”.
As chairperson; she is really happy to be playing her part in the growth of West
Wales basketball. She wants to encourage more women and girls to play the game; Oh
yes –And! She gets to keep the guys in line. |
