West Wales Tropics @ Abervalley Hurricanes
18.11.08
71 - 57 Win
This game was a cracking example of why Division 2 works for the newer teams, we played virtually the same team in the summer, but without half our squad and only Sam as a big guy and we put 50 on them in 20 minutes, aber have come along leaps and bounds this season, and could have made the game a lot closer, but I think we had a few more players with experience, and possibly were fitter, thats not a dig, but we seemed to have a bit more legs in the fourth quarter.
There really wasnt a lot between in us the first half, Abervalley did everything inside, and we were missing Big Smooth, they got a lot of stuff to drop and we had a bit of a slow start, throwing some breaks away and our usual good finishers shying away from their strengths.
Aber had four legitimately big inside players on the night and they rotated them well and they kept finding little half chances round the basket and we were just sloppy picking up loose balls which Aber were all over.
We eventually got ourselves into our offence, still missing loads of layups, and letting some calls get into our heads and not getting back, but doing enough to keep ourselves on par, despite sucking at finishing, second half we got our noses in front, then threw the ball away a bunch of times getting aber back into the game, Dai Hale made a few toughies inside and frank was a nightmare keeping tabs on as was the shaved head guy for them (sorry dont know his name but hes a nightmare) who went coast to coast a couple of times.
We got to the free throw line a bunch of times, and should have had a comfortable lead, but must have missed at least ten of them, so as usual made the game nice and exciting!
Fourth quarter we closed the game out, tightening up on Defence and getting some breaks off some bad passes, and that was that as they say.
really good performance from Aber, we're still trying to get back to our old standard but injuries arent helping, but good win all the same against a really improved team.
