At the West Wales Award Ceremonies the final award was that of 2 Scholarship places to young players from the region.
Applications were invited from across the region from players aged between 12 - 17, explaining why they thought they should go and what they wanted to achieve from basketball. The standard of the applications was exceptional. The winners were decided on the basis of passion, application and who would most benefit from this. The awards, named the 'Sam Trueman' Scholarships were awarded to John Jones (Aberystwyth) and Courtney Bowman (Preseli Storm).
The highly prestigious Uariachi Hoop Camp based in Rabat, Morocco has kindly donated West Wales Basketball 2 scholarship places for it's forthcoming summer camp between 15th - 19th June 2009.
West Wales Basketball has forged connections with this camp through Sam Trueman who attended it in 2004, 2005 and 2006. On the last occasion Sam was scouted by ACB Scouts and it led to him having trials for Real Madrid, Estudiantes and Valladolid in Spain.
The Uariachi Hoop Camp is an international basketball camp that is held every summer in Moroccoy. The first Uariachi Hoop Camp took place in 2001 in Rabat and was the first basketball camp run in the Kingdom of Morocco.
The camp is a family-run business. Naoufal and Hannele Uariachi, the directors, live in Rabat, Morocco and both teach at the Rabat American School, where the camp is held. As a former Moroccan National Team player and a long time coach, Naoufal is invested in promoting the sport in Morocco. The Uariachis have experienced great success at getting national and international coaches and kids together during their Rabat camp to play and learn more about basketball.
Uariachi Hoop Camp and Coach Miguel Angel Hoyo have reached an agreement for the latter to be present at the summer Rabat camp 15-19 June, 2009. Coach Hoyo is currently the assistant coach of CB Granada in the ACB championship in Spain.
