2008 / 2009 saw the first ever Welsh National Schools competition, run at u.12's and u.14's. The only West Wales schools entered were from Greenhill School, Tenby and Tregib School, Llandeilo.
The first round of matches saw Tenby beat Llandeilo and go on to win further rounds against teams in the Swansea area. Resulting in them reaching the semi-finals, which were played on the Terry Price Cup weekend at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff. A close and tense semi-final saw Tenby win by 2 points from a school from North Wales.
The final played in the main arena at W.I.S. in front of a relatively large crowd, saw a strong Cwm Rhymni School team end Tenby's dream. However, their impressive run to the national finals were further proof of the development of West Wales basketball.
Congratulations go out from everyone at West Wales Basketball to Alun Bartlett and his boys. |
